Magpie & Butterfly came into being when the "Ceramic Buttons & Beads" course taught by Elinor Lammond (she makes fabulous beads) said they weren't doing anymore classes. Sob, sob! I was going to miss my Friday mornings, nattering, faffing with clay, eating biscuits and then waiting a week to see what was going to come out of the kiln! Having dabbled in silver, textiles, making cards, fused glass, enamelling, photography and much, much more, I realised that clay beads were what I really wanted to do! (for now!) So in May 2006, Parents to the rescue, a kiln was bought and I started on this new venture.
All the ceramic beads, buttons ans pendants in my jewellery are hand crafted by me; Vanessa

Various clays are modelled and moulded into my designs then left to air dry. These are bisque fired in a kiln and then they are tumbled to produce a lovely finish for me to hand paint with glazes in various colours, patterns and designs. They are then over glazed, to produce a glossy finish, and fired again.

If I add any gold, silver or mother of pearl lustre then it will be fired for a third and final time.

I also make up Egyptian Paste mixed with pigments to produce raw organic shapes.

An assortment of these beads and shapes are then strung on Beadalon wire with Swarovski crystals, vintage glass beads, hand made glass beads, mother of pearl, silver, textiles, suede, leather, semi precious stones, antique beads and anything else I can find or think of!

Each piece of jewellery is one of a kind, all its components are handmade, recycled, or found and then combined to produce interesting, unique and eclectic pieces.

A little piece of everyday sparkle

BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

"These vibrant earrings feature hand-made ceramic beads that have been painstakingly painted and glazed to give a fine, glossy finish. The are the work of Vanessa Robson, from Marazion, who also creates bracelets, necklaces, brooches and cufflinks, many of which also incorporate Swarovski crystals, gemstones and glass beads for that little extra sparkle"

A SPECIAL SPARKLE

"Marazion based Vanessa Robson says her jewellery is designed for 'everyday sparkle', which means it's special enough to make you feel glamorous yet robust enough to wear while digging the garden or walking the dog. All her necklaces, earrings and bracelets are composed of her own colourful hand-made ceramic or Egyptian paste beads interspersed with bright Swarovski crystals and gemstones."
